CHOAN-IKORI
GCC㈱’s newest case in the brand accommodation series “澄庵 CHO-AN” is a detached, single-story Japanese-style guesthouse located in Minami Ward, Kyoto.
This renovation project began with a single-story detached house. At the start of the renovation, the original building had become severely aged and deteriorated. Rather than simply demolishing and rebuilding it, we chose to preserve as much of the house’s original character and old-world atmosphere as possible, while reorganizing the space, renewing the structure and facilities, and giving the building a new life.
The newly reborn “CHOAN -IKORI” combines the quiet elegance of traditional Japanese housing with the comfort of contemporary design. Original materials, low eaves, and the horizontally extended layout of a single-story home are integrated with modern construction techniques and improved building materials, transforming this old house into a detached guesthouse with a sense of history, refined design, and comfortable accommodation.
Through this renovation, GCC㈱ continues the core concept of the “澄庵 CHO-AN” series: creating a balance between history and modernity, and offering guests a quiet, natural stay filled with the atmosphere of Kyoto.
